 MESI was founded in 1932 as Moscow Institute of National Economy Accounting. In 1949 it was renamed to Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics (MESI) and 1996 it became Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics.

Among professors and lectures of the University there are 46 Doctors of Science and Professors, 178 Candidates of Science (Ph. D. level), 16 members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and branch academies. Besides main staff there are more than 4000 tutors in branches and Regional Centers of MESI.

Material and technical base of MESI includes 3 buildings for training (audiences and computer classes equipped with the modern computer technologies and brought together to the University network with Internet access); information and librarian complex with Electronic Library, a cultural centre and comfortable hostel located close to the main building. MESI rents the best Moscow sports facilities.
