University MESI. University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI) is one of the leading state higher economic educational institutes in Russia with rich experience and its own traditions in training specialists in the sphere of Economics. MESI was founded in 1932 as Moscow Institute of National Economy Accounting. In 1949 it was renamed to Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics (MESI) and 1996 it became Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics.
Among professors and lectures of the University there are 46 Doctors of Science and Professors, 178 Candidates of Science (Ph. D. level), 16 members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and branch academies. Besides main staff there are more than 4000 tutors in branches and Regional Centers of MESI.
Material and technical base of MESI includes 3 buildings for training (audiences and computer classes equipped with the modern computer technologies and brought together to the University network with Internet access); information and librarian complex with Electronic Library, a cultural centre and comfortable hostel located close to the main building. MESI rents the best Moscow sports facilities.
THE RECTOR of MESI is Vladimir Pavlovich Tikhomirov, Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor, academician. President of the Association of Economic Universities and Institutes of Russia, President of the Eurasian Distance Learning Association (ELDA), President of the International Academy of Open Education (IAOE), Vice-President of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education, Vice-President of the Global Distance Learning Association (GLDA).
MESI is the one of the first educational institutions which began to use a distance learning technologies in education. MESI is acknowledged leader of open education in the Russian Federation now.
More than 200 regional centers successfully cooperate with MESI in 78 Subjects of RF, where approximately 50 000 students and trainees are studied.
MESI Open Education and Distance Learning System is a universal form of distance education, based on using a wide spectrum of traditional, as well information and telecommunication technologies and technical means, which create for students conditions for free choosing of educational subjects, provided by the dialogue exchange with a tutor. Incidentally the educational process doesn’t depend on place and time of student training.
